Certification Board Purpose
- Evaluate and recognize knowledge in the disciplines of Ligand
Assay through the administration of a written examination
- Identify and certify individuals who meet the qualifications
defined by the certifying board of the Clinical Ligand Assay
Society.

Privileges:
CLAS Board Certified individuals in good standing will have the
right to claim Certification based on verification of knowledge
in the specialty certified. The member will also earn the privilege
to use the designated initials after his/her name. For Radioassay:
CLAS RA. For Ligand Assay: CLAS LA.

Certification Requirements:
Ligand Assay Certification: Education: B.S. in Medical Technology;
or a B.S. in Nuclear Medicine Technology
or
a B.S. in chemical, physical, or biological science; or 60 semester
hours in a chemical, physical or biological science; and one year
of relevant experience
and
Examination: A passing grade.
Radioassay Assay Certification: Education: B.S. in Medical Technology;
or a B.S. in Nuclear Medicine Technology
or
a B.S. in chemical, physical, or biological science; or 60 semester
hours in a chemical, physical or biological science; and one year
of relevant experience
and
Examination: A passing grade.
Examination waiver will be considered for those applicants holding
a state license in the speciality of Radioassay.
Examination Frequency:
The examination will be administered twice per year; once at the
location and time of the Clinical Ligand Assay Society National
Meeting and once in a different location designated by the CLASCB.
Applications for certification by examination and examination waiver
will be accepted continually.
Application:
Applications forms are available from the Clinical Ligand Assay
Society office in Wayne, Michigan. Contact the CLASCB office at
(313) 722-6290 or use this link clas@clas.org to request an application
form or additional information. The application form will be accompanied
with additional information about the certification process. An
application fee of $100.00 (U.S.) in check, Visa, MasterCard or
money order must accompany the application for each speciality certification
requested. Completed application forms for examination must be received
sixty (60) calendar days prior to the scheduled examination date
to be included in that particular sitting. The application's eligibility
for examination must be met within 92 calendar days of examination.

Study Guide:
A list of references for review in preparation for the examination
is available (click here). The suggested readings are not all inclusive,
nor are they necessarily designed to ensure a passing grade on the
examination, but are intended only as a list of possible sources
of appropriate information. Workshops are presented at the CLAS
National Meeting which may also be helpful in preparation for the
examination.
Foreign Credentials:
Applicants whose education and experience is outside the United
States or Canada must submit documentation of education to a credentials
evaluation service recognized by the United States Secretary of
Education, Department of Education, for equivalency evaluation prior
to application to the CLASCB.

Examination Information:
The examination for Radioassay Certification consists of fifty multiple
choice questions each having a selection of four answers, only one
of which is the correct answer. The Ligand Assay examination has
one hundred questions. The categories evaluated for both examinations
are:
Assay Principles and Troubleshooting
Statistics and Quality Control
Radiation and Laboratory Safety
Instrumentation
Physiology and Clinical Applications
The Radioassay examination stresses isotopic methodologies. The
Ligand Assay examination includes both isotopic and non-isotopic
methodologies.
Two hours will be allowed for taking the examination in Radioassay
and four hours will be allowed for the Ligand Assay examination.
